The Promenade at The Dorchester

Set in the heart of Mayfair on Park Lane, The Dorchester has been a symbol of luxury and charm for more than half a century. The Promenade is the sumptuous setting for the hotel's legendary afternoon teas, offering sandwiches, scones and pastries alongside a selection of 25 different types of tea. The truly decadent can also opt for champagne while reclining on the high-backed divans, or hide away in one of the intimate alcoves for an informal lunch or a light supper. Please note, all guests are respectfully asked to observe The Dorchester's 'smart casual' dress code, by refraining from wearing baseball or beanie caps, ripped jeans, sportswear (including flip-flops) and shorts while visiting the restaurants and bars.

Menu

Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, is reputed to have originated the idea
of Afternoon Tea in the early 1800s. She conceived the idea of having tea
in the afternoon to ward off the hunger pangs between lunch and dinner
The Duchess started having a tray of tea with bread and butter
served to her in the mid-afternoon.
It became a regular occurrence and she began to invite other high society
ladies to join her. Along with tea, there would be small pastries with clotted
cream or preserves, delicate sandwiches and scones.
These habits soon became a good reason for social gatherings,
and started a trend that is still very much a part of British life.
