Roll up for Pancake Day

It’s Pancake Day tomorrow!

Well, Shrove Tuesday, to give it its proper name, but nevertheless, it’s a chart topping day for pancake consumption and has been for eons, because pancakes are such a fabulous way to use up eggs, sugar and fat, before the start of the traditional fasting season of Lent.

In time honoured tradition, tomorrow should see thousands of pounds raised for charities as people across the UK take part in pancake races, running through the streets armed with their frying pans and pancakes.

There’s a famous pancake race in Olney, Buckinghamshire which is only open to women who have lived in the town for more than six months and which is said to date back to 1445.  In London, there are plenty of great pancake races on the agenda, including the Better Bankside pancake race and the Parliamentary Pancake Race which will see MPs pitted against journalists in a very battering battle!  This one should be a great spectator event and is due to kick off at 10:30 am in Victoria Tower Gardens.

We’ve found a couple of special pancake day offers from our restaurants too, so if you don’t want to get flipping in the kitchen, check out the offers in our restaurant lists.

Even if you’re not fasting for Lent, you can still enjoy a few pancakes. Our favourites are pancakes with lemon juice and sugar. Yum.
